Federal Government Begins Prosecution of Michigan Medical Marijuana Cases

Federal agents with the DEA raided a private home today as part of a medical marijuana investigation and impending prosecution. The home was located in Commerce Township and the owners medical marijuana dispensary, CareGivers of America, in Novi, Michigan was raided as well.  Reportedly, the two raids were part of a broader DEA investigation. Other locations that were raided were another medical marijuana dispensary, a restaurant and the Coliseum strip club in Detroit. The search warrants were sealed so there is not report yet on what information or evidence justified the searches. This investigation marks one of the first federal investigations dealing with medical marijuana in Michigan.

A large scale medical marijuana case being prosecuted by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office out of Waterford, Michigan was scheduled for a pretrial today in the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. The cases are scheduled for pretrial motions as this time as defense lawyers fight to present their client’s defense and the prosecutor seeks to strip the defendant’s of their constitutional right to present a defense. Loren Dickstein of LEWIS & DICKSTEIN, P.L.L.C. is handling two the defendant’s cases.
