Federal Agents Violate Civil Rights

Federal U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents violated people’s civil rights and their own policies when conducting an investigation into the immigration status of parents of children who attend Hope of Detroit Academy. The Academy is a public charter school in southwest Detroit, Michigan. The investigation took place on March 31, 2011. The policies of ICE prohibit investigations and operational activities near schools. This violation of policy may be indicative of a pattern of harassment of minorities by federal agents.
