Search Warrant Definition

A search warrant is a court order authorizing a search for evidence of a crime, signed by a judge or magistrate, and based on sufficient facts or evidence proving that the search will likely uncover the sought-after evidence. A police or law enforcement officer must attest to sufficient evidence to show probable cause that the search is likely to find evidence supporting a criminal prosecution.
