DUI Definition

DUI or Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or a Controlled Substance. DUI generally refers to the offense of drunk driving. In Michigan, the most common drinking and driving offenses are called Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), Operating While Visibly Impaired (OWVI), and Operating With the Presence of Drugs (OWPD). A first offense DUI carries up to 93 days in jail. The potential sentence is enhanced with one or two prior convictions or an accident causing an injury or death.
